In 1950, engineer Wilbert B. Smith launched Project Magnet at Canada's Department of Transport — the first state-funded UFO investigation programme anywhere. Project Second Story followed at the Defence Research Board. Both their records, plus subsequent RCMP and DND files, live at Library and Archives Canada.
